Submitted by Marion Brady @ 2:58 pm, 11th Oct '11 I agree with Ming about Ireland having sold itself down the 'river' with regard to our fishing industry which should be massive and employing so many of our present unemployed. I blame successive governments going back 35-40 years (mostly Fianna Fail) for this.
Let's hope you can follow through on your word but please start with an agenda of accountability in that no politician will include a guarantee of mandate to a body of people prior to election and then do the opposite once he is elected. There are many but for Roscommon people the closest to our heart and the most recent is our almost very own Enda Kenny's pre election promises on Roscommon Hospital.
If you with the backing of the people ensure he keeps his word, then you guarantee yourself to replace him in the not too distant future.
Good Luck - dont overkill it in the talking - actions speak louder! Let them close one of Galway's hospitals before we are left with none and show him that our part of Ireland is not suffering from a dose of National Heart attack.
Henceforth, politics must clean it's act, starting with the honesty & credibility of politicians to follow through with their mandates and keep the people informed with total transparency of finances especially what is spent on HSE Administration as opposed to what is paid direct to Medical Services. The high earners must be named and let the people decide if they are really needed or a 'bunch of them should go first' before any hospital ward is closed in this country of ours.
The power of the people albeit an almost broken people can do wonders - our generation have let down our young people so let's show them the way back - the right way this time>
